WOODBURY — A Gloucester County grand jury, during the week of Dec. 8, indicted the following people:

— Marquis T. Simpson, 21, of Springfield Gardens, N.Y. , for trafficking personal identification information, possession of incomplete credit cards, receiving stolen property and 15 counts of credit card theft in East Greenwich on June 14.

— Travis D. Johnson, 21, of Jamaica, N.Y., for trafficking in personal ID information, possession of incomplete credit cards, credit card theft and receiving stolen property in East Greenwich on June 14.

WOODBURY — On Friday and Saturday, Dec.12 and 13, the Main Street Woodbury organization will host a two day Pop-Up Art show, called Art on the Spot, at the Retail #1 space at 108 S. Broad St., otherwise known as the historic GG Green Building.

The show will feature 12 artists from around the region. The artists will have their work on display and for sale just in time for the holidays.

DEPTFORD TWP. — KotoriCon, the little anime con with a big heart, returns for the sixth year to the Rowan College at Gloucester County campus Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10.

Hosted by the RCGC Japanese Anime Guild — a popular student club on campus — the convention is a celebration of Asian culture, particularly that of Japan. This year’s festivities include live music, stand-up comedy, panel discussions and meet-and-greets with famous voice actors, gaming tournaments and screenings of recently dubbed animated entertainment. The theme is space as Kotori embarks on intergalactic adventure.

MANTUA TWP. — The Mantua Township Fire District has joined forces with the Chick-Fil-A restaurant  in Mantua Square and Blessings in A Backpack to host a “Stuff the Fire Truck” food drive on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Donations may be dropped off at any Mantua Township school or at the Mantua Chick-Fil-A.

I love calendars.

I like big ones to put on the wall so I can see it while I’m working.  I like small ones with two pages for each day.

I love datebooks. I have jotted things down in small datebooks since the 1970s, long before I started writing longer notes in journals.

I have had page-a-day diaries — I like these, but often find I don’t need to write enough to fill a page and, since I can’t see more than two days at a time, they’re not very useful as planners. Besides, this kind of calendar is no good at reminding you on Monday of an appointment you have on Friday.

I’ve had planners — expensive things with replaceable pages.

I’ve had pocket-notebook-sized planners that show a week spread over two pages. These are most useful to me — as long as I consult them.

DEPTFORD TWP.— Thirty-five recruits will graduate as police officers in the 45th Basic Recruit classof the Gloucester County Police Academy Wednesday night, Dec. 10.

The 35 graduated represent Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties and the state Division of Fish and Wildlife.

EAST GREENWICH TWP.  — An East Greenwich resident recently received a Comcast letter regarding FCC rules and regulations.

The note regards "signal leakage at your residence which exceeds acceptable limits."

Police checked with Comcast and learned the letter was a scam with a North Jersey phone number written on it.

Police are advising residents to not call the number on the letter or to let anyone in without proper identification.

The alert was posted on Facebook and one commenter noted the letter wasn't even using Comcast's current logo.

GREENWICH TWP. — On Dec. 6, a Swedesboro Road resident allowed a man claiming to be from the “water company” into her home, saying he had to check to see if he could detect an odor of gas in her water line.

The man spent several minutes banging on pipes in the basement,  saying he was looking for blockages in the line, police said. The victim heard him call someone on a cell phone and speak in a foreign language, said police.

The man said he found blockages in her water line and told her a crew would be out on Monday to fix the problem, police said.

NATIONAL PARK — Gloucester County will offer free Candlelight Tours of the historic James and Ann Whitall House at Red Bank Battlefield Park this Friday, Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 13 from 3 to 9 p.m.

This year's theme for the candlelight tours is "A Hessian Christmas." Enjoy hearth cooking by volunteers, tours, learn about the German traditions that have inspired our own holidays, and see gingerbread houses and all natural elements throughout the house that will be on display.
