WOODBURY — Afraid that lower bail might allow a man charged with sexually assaulting a girl under 13 to be deported before a trial, a Superior Court judge Friday kept Carlos Calderon’s bail at $300,000.

Calderon, 31, lives in Deptford, but is from Guatemala. He was charged on Feb. 11 with assaulting his victim at least twice last year, authorities said.

WOODBURY — A Gloucester County grand jury this week indicted Rocco L. Carsillo, 56, of West Deptford on murder charges.

Carsillo allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Peggy DePietro, to death on March 3 in West Deptford Township. He was arrested the day after her body was found, police said.

He was additionally indicted for possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, theft, receiving stolen property and certain persons not to have a weapon.

GREENWICH TWP. — Responding to a report of an erratic female driver, police were able to stop her red Toyota at Broad Street and Veterans Lane.

The woman reportedly appeared confused and disoriented and there was a 6-year-old girl n the car with her, police said.

When the driver got out of the car, officers allegedly spotted suspected narcotics and paraphernalia on the front seat of the car, said police.

West Deptford K-9, Judge, given a hero's farewell

WOOLWICH TWP. — It was a hero’s farewell, attended by lots of police officers, as is traditional when a law enforcement professional has died.

In Friday’s case, however, it was a farewell for Judge, a retired West Deptford Township police dog.

Thirty or more police officers and about a dozen K-9 officers and their partners went to the Swedesboro Animal Hospital St. Francis Veterinary Clinic on Kings Highway in Woolwich Township to say goodbye to Judge.

The 9-year-old’s physical ailments had elicited an amazing show of support in November, when more than $13,000 was raised in one day to help pay for the German Shepherd dog’s mountain of medical bills.

— On Feb. 8, a Merle Lane resident told police someone had entered his home and taken two electric guitars and a debit card, which was later used at a nearby convenience store, Police have identified suspects and complaints are pending.

— Police arrested a 38-year-old Swedesboro woman Feb. 9 on multiple warrants with more than $2,500 bail. She was lodged in the Salem County Jail.

MONROE TWP. —  The Fugitive Investigations Unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office arrested two Williamstown men on warrants for failure to appear in Superior Court, one on a charge of receiving stolen property and the other in connection with a criminal mischief charge.

Matthew J. Barbone 3rd, 35, was taken into custody at 1059 Bradford Drive in Williamstown and Leonard Vidovic, 51, was apprehended at 424 Prosser Ave., Williamstown, both on Tuesday, Feb. 17.  Both were turned over to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department.

Barbone failed to appear in Superior Court, Woodbury on Feb. 9 for an arraignment conference on an indictment accusing him of receiving stolen property, specifically a leaf blower, in Monroe Township on Aug. 22, 2014.

Vidovic missed a scheduled Superior Court arraignment conference in Woodbury on Feb. 9 on a charge of damaging property in Monroe Township on Jan. 7 2014.

WOODBURY — Gabriel Moran, 20, of Williamstown, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two Monroe Township robberies in 2013.

Moran pleaded to the robbery of a gas station at knifepoint on Jan. 13, 2013 and the Sept. 6, 2013 holdup of a woman waiting for a ride at Monroe’s Pfeiffer Community Center, during which he hit her in the head with a gun and took her pocketbook, authorities said.

WOODBURY — Gloucester County will hold Job Fair Workshops to prepare job seekers who will be attending the county sponsored Job Fair on March 6 at Rowan College at  Gloucester County.

The workshops will help participants create an effective resumé and learn social media techniques and job fair strategies. There’s information on using key words in resumés that will get embedded in computer-generated programs used to search through resumés.

Atlantic City man pleads guilty to illegal gun possession in Deptford

WOODBURY — A 29-year-old Atlantic City man pleaded guilty Tuesday to having a handgun without a permit on March 28 in Deptford.

According to information provided by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Senior Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Paul Colangelo will recommend that Brooks S. Griffin be sentenced to five years in state prison and be required to serve three years before becoming eligible for parole.
