CLAYTON —Two people suffered burns during an early morning house fire in Clayton.

The fire in the 300 block of Addison Street was reported at 4:47 a.m Thursday. When firefighters arrived, heavy fire was  visible from the front and left sides of the house, authorities said.

Crews commanded by Chief C.J. Langley of the Clayton Fire Department were able to place the fire under control quickly. Clayton firefighters were assisted by Franklinville, Star Cross, Glassboro and Mantua companies. Gloucester County EMS and Inspira paramedics were also on scene.

The two burn victims were transported to Crozer Chester Hospital Burn Center in Upland, Pa.

The fire is under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal.

 UPDATE: At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Christopher Joseph Reinek, of Williamstown, was arrested and charged with criminal attempted robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and terroristic threats in connection with the Mini Mart robbery, police said.

Reinek was jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail and charges are pending from other jurisdictions, said police.

NATIONAL PARK — Police are looking for the man who held up the Mini Mart on Columbia Boulevard at about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect is a white male, 5’9” pr 5’10”, 30 to 40 years old. He wore all black and sunglasses, police said.

The robber may have an injury to his hands and shoulder, said police. He fled in a gold or tans station wagon with no license plates on it, police said.

GLASSBORO — Two people were arrested at the conclusion of a three-week-long investigation into the sale and distribution of marijuana in Glassboro Tuesday.

At about 1:30 p.m., the police department’s Special Investigations Unit and patrol officers executed a search warrant on a vehicle owned by Dyshawn E. Williams, 21, of Sewell, while it was in the 100 block of East High Street, police said.

During the search, officers reported finding marijuana packaged for distribution, said police.

Williams and Serena L.  Grillo, 26, of Glassboro, were each charged with distribution of marijuana, distribution of marijuana within 500 feet of public housing, conspiracy to distribute marijuana and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, police said.

Williams was committed to the Salem County Jail in default of 10 percent of $25,000 bail and Grillo was served with complaint summonses and released, said police.

WOODBURY — Gloucester County residents will enjoy even more access to affordable and quality education, the forward movement of the Port of Paulsboro and improvements to many busy roadways in 2015,  announced Freeholder Director Robert Damminger Wednesday as he delivered the annual State of the County address.

Damminger, who was unanimously voted director by his six freeholder colleagues on Jan.
2, said he was honored to lead the Board that works tirelessly to make Gloucester County a great place to live.

“We are a leader in the state in so many areas and shared services is one that stands out,” said Director Damminger.  “Regionalized emergency medical services, countywide assessing, 911 dispatching, stormwater management, and trash disposal are just some of the services available to Gloucester County’s 24 municipalities.”

Damminger said that in total, the savings the municipalities achieve from the services provided by Gloucester County are in excess of $27 million annually.  This represents an average $0.15 saved on each town’s local purpose tax.

PITMAN — Thanks to a donation from the Associated Humane Societies of Newark, Pitman's K-9 Rangerhas been outfitted with a bullet-resistant vest.

The photo was posted to the police department's Facebook page,

"I would like to personally thank the Associated Humane Societies for donating this vest to the Pitman Police Department," said PoliceChief Robert Zimmerman. "These vests cost somewhere around $800 each. The Associated Humane Societies makes these types of generous donations because they want to ensure that K-9 Ranger and other K-9 Dogs are safe while protecting and serving their respective communities."

FRANKLIN TWP. — A three-week investigation into a burglary at a Howard Avenue residence has led to an arrest.

The burglary of a shed at the residence occurred on Dec. 24. The victim reported several power tools and landscaping equipment had been stolen, police said.

During the investigation, officers learned that  Ernest Girtain Jr., 28, who was renting the residence, had sold several items at a South Jersey pawn shop, said police.

WOODBURY — During the end of this month, the focus will be on the War Between The States at the Woodbury Public Library.

On Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m., Dr. William Gillette will present “New Jersey Before the Civil War,” part of the library’s year-long exploration of the lessons of the war. The program will explain how the stage was set for New Jersey’s future involvement, or lack thereof.

WOODBURY —  Gloucester County Sheriff Carmel Morina will swear-in Lt. Kim Reichert as captain for the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department. She is thefirst woman to hold the rank of captain in the history of the department.

“Kim Reichert has a distinguished career, having come up through the ranks within the county’s Correctional and Sheriff’s Departments over the last 24 years,” said Morina. “She is a true professional in every sense of the word.”

Reichert, who graduated from Glassboro State College in 1990 with a BA in Criminal Justice, started her career as a Gloucester County Juvenile Detention Officer in 1991. In 1992 she became a corrections officer and served in that capacity until 1996, when she was hired as a Gloucester County Sheriff’s Officer and graduated from the Gloucester County Police Academy.  

In 2003 she was promoted to the rank of sergeant and in 2006 she was promoted to lieutenant.  She is a Gloucester County Police Academy Instructor of Emergency Vehicle Operations and the Child Passenger Safety Program Coordinator and Certified Child Seat Safety Technician for the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department.
